Let’s talk about AI visibility ↗

AEO / Answer engine optimization

Your reputation has another place to show up.

AEO is the work of making useful expertise easier for answer engines to find, interpret and reference. For UpWrite, that begins with a clear account of who you are, the problems you understand and the evidence behind your point of view.

Search-enabled AI experiences can retrieve and cite web sources, including news reporting and specialist publications. OpenAI’s introduction of ChatGPT search describes links to news articles and blog posts, third-party search providers and content supplied by publisher partners. [1]

That gives credible coverage another potential use. A substantive interview or reported story can become a source an AI search system encounters when answering a relevant question. Original research, a current biography and useful pages on your own website can contribute to that public record too.

Our approach is to earn and publish material worth finding, then examine how it is represented in the AI experiences that matter to your audience. A placement, backlink or structured-data update does not guarantee a citation or recommendation.

The work behind AI visibility

Build a public record worth finding.

Positioning and message clarity

Define the expertise, audiences and questions you want to be associated with. Align executive biographies, service descriptions and public profiles so people can understand the same business contribution across sources.

Earned media and expert commentary

Develop specific angles and pursue relevant interviews, commentary and bylined opportunities. We prioritize a useful contribution and the right audience, keeping independent editorial, sponsored content and company-owned publishing distinct.

Original thought leadership

Turn experience into substantial articles, practical frameworks, research and clearly attributed answers. Connect speaking and podcast appearances to accurate summaries and a durable home for the strongest ideas.

Website content and discoverability

Improve the explanations, source links, author information and internal connections that make your expertise easier to follow. We identify crawlability and indexing questions for coordination with your website team. Google says its AI search features use the same SEO foundations and require no special AI schema. [2]

Assessment through UpWrite Compass

Measure the starting point.
Build from what you learn.

UpWrite Compass is The UpWrite Group’s executive visibility assessment. Its AI Visibility scan looks at presence across major LLMs alongside the broader visibility diagnostic and a tailored 90-day roadmap.

Compass gives the work a starting point. UpWrite can then help develop the positioning, content and outreach program that addresses the priorities identified. An assessment can stand on its own, and an ongoing communications engagement is scoped separately.

01 / Assess

Establish a baseline.

Agree on the questions, audiences and AI experiences to examine. Record what appears, what is cited and whether the account of your expertise is accurate.

02 / Build

Strengthen the public record.

Develop useful original content, update important identity information and pursue relevant coverage and conversations around your expertise.

03 / Review

Test the same questions again.

Compare a consistent set of prompts over time. Keep the engine, date and available context with each observation so changes can be interpreted sensibly.

A practical assessment and review approach. AI answers vary by query, engine, location, personalization and time. A sample of answers is not a complete measure of every user’s experience.

What progress can look like

Look beyond a single AI score.

Track whether your name or organization appears in relevant answers, whether a source is actually cited and whether the description is correct. Keep those observations separate from referral visits and qualified inquiries. A mention, a citation and a website visit measure different things.

Where access and reporting allow, use native platform evidence too. Bing Webmaster Tools offers citation reporting for supported Microsoft AI experiences. Its citation counts do not establish ranking or placement, and they do not measure every LLM. [3]

Bring the findings back to the communications plan: which questions need a better answer, which expertise needs clearer evidence and which public pages need to be brought up to date?

A few good questions

What should you expect?

Is AEO separate from SEO?

They overlap. Sound SEO helps make pages accessible and understandable. AEO also considers how answer engines represent a person or organization and which public sources support that description. Google’s guidance says no special optimization is required for AI Overviews or AI Mode. [2]

Can you guarantee that ChatGPT will recommend us?

No. Platforms control their answers and source selection. We can improve the material available, pursue relevant coverage and measure observed results. We make no promise of a particular citation, position or recommendation.

Does every media mention help AI visibility?

The relevance, substance, accessibility and accuracy of the source matter. A short mention may communicate very little about your expertise. We build stories for real readers and evaluate their role in observed AI answers rather than assigning every placement an automatic AI value.

Where should we start?

Start with the questions you want to be known for and an honest look at your current public presence. Compass provides the diagnostic. UpWrite helps you decide what to build next. Our CIO Visibility Gap research shows how these choices connect with a broader executive career strategy.
